# Expression number calculator

Your Expression number, also called the Destiny number, comes from every letter of your full birth name. Enter your name as it appears on your birth certificate to get it, along with the Soul Urge and Personality numbers that make it up.

## How the Expression number is calculated

Every letter of your full birth name is given its Pythagorean value:

The values of the whole name are added, and the total is reduced by adding its digits until one digit remains. A total that reaches 11, 22 or 33 is kept as a master number.

Some numerologists reduce each name separately and then add the results. That can change the answer: "Sarah Lee" totals 33 as a whole name but gives 6 when each name is reduced first. This calculator adds the whole name, the most common method, and the [API](/name-numerology-api) can do either.

Yes. The Expression number uses your complete birth name, so every given name and every family name counts.

### What about accents and letters such as ø or ß?

Accents are dropped, so é counts as e. Letters such as ø, ł, ß and æ are written as their usual Latin equivalents (o, l, ss, ae) before they are valued. Russian Cyrillic is valued with the Russian numerology table.
