# Karmic debt calculator

Karmic debt numbers, 13, 14, 16 and 19, appear when a core number in your chart passes through one of them on its way to a single digit. Enter your name and birthdate to check all five places they can hide.

## Where karmic debts come from

The calculator checks five totals before they are reduced:

- the **Life Path** total: your reduced birth month, day and year added together;
- the **Expression** total: every letter of your full name;
- the **Soul Urge** total: the vowels;
- the **Personality** total: the consonants;
- your **birth day** itself (born on the 13th, 14th, 16th or 19th).

If a total is 13, 14, 16 or 19, or reduces through one of them (31 becomes 4 without passing 13, but 49 becomes 13, then 4), that karmic debt is in your chart.

## What each karmic debt means

| Debt | Reduces to | The lesson |
|---|---|---|
| 13 | 4 | Hard work and patience, without shortcuts |
| 14 | 5 | Freedom used responsibly, and moderation |
| 16 | 7 | Humility, and rebuilding after a fall |
| 19 | 1 | Independence that still accepts help |

## Frequently asked questions

### Is a karmic debt bad?

Numerology reads it as a lesson rather than a punishment: an area of life that asks for more effort, and rewards it.

### What is the difference between karmic debts and karmic lessons?

Karmic debts are the totals 13, 14, 16 and 19 inside your core numbers. [Karmic lessons](/karmic-lesson-calculator) are the numbers from 1 to 9 missing from the letters of your name.

### Can I have more than one karmic debt?

Yes. Each of the five totals is checked, so a chart can carry several, and the calculator lists every one.
