# Personality number calculator

The Personality number comes from the consonants of your full birth name. It describes the impression you make on people before they know you well.

## How the Personality number is calculated

1. Write out your full birth name, middle names included.
2. Keep only the consonants: every letter except A, E, I, O and U. Y counts as a consonant here.
3. Add their Pythagorean values and reduce the total by adding its digits, keeping 11, 22 or 33 if you reach one.

## What it describes

The Personality number is the outer layer of a chart: how you come across, what you show first and what you let people see. It often explains why someone's first impression of you differs from who you feel you are, which is your [Soul Urge](/soul-urge-number-calculator).

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Y a consonant in the Personality number?

In this calculator, yes, always. Numerologists who treat Y as a vowel when it sounds like one would move it to the Soul Urge instead, which changes both numbers.

### Do middle names count?

Yes. The Personality number uses every consonant of your full birth name.

### How does it relate to the Expression number?

Personality (consonants) and Soul Urge (vowels) together make up the [Expression number](/expression-number-calculator), which uses every letter.
