What makes a master number

Numerology reduces every total by adding its digits until one digit remains, with one exception: when a total reaches 11, 22 or 33, it stops there. Those are the master numbers. Each carries the nature of the digit it would reduce to (2, 4 and 6) at a higher intensity.

Why calculators disagree about master numbers

Most disagreement comes from the Life Path. Adding every digit of a date at once can land on 11 or 22 where reducing the month, day and year separately does not: 8 December 1980 adds straight across to 29, then 11, but in parts gives 3 + 8 + 9 = 20, then 2. This calculator reduces in parts, the canonical method, so it never reports a master number that is not there. How to calculate a Life Path number explains the difference.

The calculator checks six numbers: Life Path, Expression, Soul Urge, Personality, Birthday and Maturity.

Frequently asked questions

How rare are master numbers?

Rarer than single digits. A Life Path of 11 or 22 needs the reduced month, day and year to land on them exactly, and 33 is the rarest of all.

Is 44 a master number?

Some numerologists count 44 and higher doubles, but the standard set is 11, 22 and 33, and this calculator keeps only those.

Can I have more than one master number?

Yes. A name and a date can each produce one, so a chart can hold master numbers in several places.
